The image used for the cover of Riverside Drive is of silent film star Clara Bow, the "It" girl. Her looks and mannerisms were an inspiration when developing the character of the series' heroine, Vera Maude Maguire.
Riverside Drive is the first in the Border City Blues series of crime fiction novels set in the Windsor/ Detroit area during Prohibition. While the smuggling of contraband provides the backdrop to many of the tales, close attention is also paid to the politics and popular culture of the day, and then there is the occasional romance. Introductions to Riverside Drive's main characters can be found in young Jack McCloskey's smuggling adventure, The Lusty Beg, in a glimpse of the young Vera Maude in Delivery, a humorous tale of novocaine and moving-going in Enough Money For Popcorn, and a view into her life in New York City in Vera Maude's Christmas In the Village. The sequel to Riverside Drive, Maiden Lane, was published May 2015. The third book in the series, Prospect Avenue, was published October 2018. The fourth in the series, St. Luke Road, is currently under construction. |
